SUPPORT FOCUS: Elephant Conservation
In 2012 the IAPF donated optics equipment to the value of $13,000 to the reserve to help battle the elephant poaching that is taking place there. The nature of this equipment will remain confidential for operational security purposes. Niassa Reserve is a nature reserve in Cabo Delgado Province and Niassa Province, Mozambique. Covering over 42,000 square kilometres (10,000,000 acres), it is the largest protected area in the country. Niassa is one of the most remote and extraordinary places on the African Continent. Its vast wilderness area is home to an elephant population of 13,000. This population is under constant attack from uncompromising poachers, determined to supply the black market with ivory.
