SUPPORT FOCUS: Ranger Empowerment & Rhino Conservation
www.imire.org Following the brutal killing of 3 rhino and one unborn calf at Imire in late 2007, rangers were sent to IAPF’s training facility, 1000kms away in Victoria Falls. Following 12 weeks of intensive training, head rangers were redeployed and since then, no more rhino’s have been poached. The Imire Black Rhino Breeding Programme, is world-renowned and is helping to protect Zimbabwe’s heritage with the successful breeding and re-introduction of this incredible beast into the wild. Imire and IAPF are 2 of many organiations within Zimbabwe who have contributed to the National Rhino Strategy Meetings with Zimbabwe Parks & Wildlife Management Authority.
